  1. Thanks for sharing this process! That one with Cindy was very interesting. So you draw the figure and then add the back/foreground?

    • Just so. The full process (not detailed above) goes as follows:

      1) Written strip script
      2) Thumbnail of strip (penciled onto a printout of
      the roughly-placed word balloons)
      3) Character roughs, based on the strip thumbnails
      4) Character inks
      5) Scanning
      6) Composition of characters and word balloons
      7) Character/background coloring
      8) Image reduction for posting online

      Steps 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8 are all done in PhotoShop. The thumbnails, drawing and inking are all done by hand. This is not necessarily the best or fastest way to do things – but for Faux Pas, it works!
